Maine Tower Clocks Workshop

Dr. Mark Beever chairs this workshop, now carrying the torch for Carroll Morse.  We are extremely thankful to Laura Morse for entrusting Chapter 89 with Carroll’s research documents and photo files.

His goal is to continue to identify and document all of the dozens of public clocks in the State of Maine.  Only when all tower clocks in Maine have been catalogued will the workshop finish.  Click HERE to see the backbone of his Carroll’s work.  More is to be added in the future.

If you’ve an interest in assisting in this workshop, please contact Mark at 625-7353

Lessons in Gold leafing and in Reverse Glass Painting continue.

Chapter 89 offers an Exhibit at Norlands Living History Center in Livermore, Maine.   Concurrently Chapter 89 will conduct a Field Suitcase Workshop module at this event.  Norlands is a working 19th century farm, with an 1823 one-room schoolhouse, an 1828 church, the 1867 Washburn mansion, and an 1883 stone library.  Ben Crosby heads this event which always takes place on the last Saturday of June.  You may reach him at his winter number (813) 783-6496 and his summer number (207) 562-4285.

Chapter 89 offers an Exhibit at Willowbrook in Newfield, Maine.  Concurrently Chapter 89 will conduct a Field Suitcase Workshop module at this event.  Today 37 structures, including two historic houses and their barns and a reproduction schoolhouse and bandstand, grace this restored country village.  There are over 10,000 artifacts on display.  Restored collections include more than 60 horse drawn sleighs and carriages, an 1849 Concord stagecoach and a 1894 carousel with 24 horses and 4 chariots, which may be seen operating 3 times daily.  Meet us at our display room at the Sandwich Shoppe.  Ern Grover heads this event.  FMI (207) 490-3500.

Ern Grover heads Field Suitcase Clock and Watch Repair Workshops.  Other chapter members may conduct specific workshop modules.  This “hands-on” workshop closely follows the outline of NAWCC Suitcase Workshops, except that the instructors for this series develop their own teaching materials and training aids.  There is no charge for participation in this workshop; you are, however, expected to purchase your own hand tools.  Most specialty shop items are shared by the workshop.  Note:  We welcome you to jump in where you like.  We would prefer, however, not to take the rest of the class backwards, so we ask you to be competent in the previous workshop skills.

Workshops are conducted monthly.  Two of the workshops are conducted concurrently with the Norlands Exhibit in Livermore and the Willowbrook Exhibit in Newfield.
